How to Host a Successful Event in 6 Easy Steps

Events are an amazing way to market your organization, but they won't be of much help if nobody shows up. Events take time and money, whether you're planning a company picnic, or a banquet dinner, you'll need to take the proper steps to ensure the resources you've invested are put to good use.

STEP 1
ESTABLISH YOUR GOAL
Sure, events are fun, but events need to be built around a specific goal or it will be difficult to plan and execute the event. There are plenty of goals any organization can utilize when planning an event such as, raising money, supporting a cause, creating awareness, or boosting employee morale. Choose a goal and stick with it. Everything you do from this point on will focus on the goal you've chosen.

STEP 2
DEFINE YOUR AUDIENCE
The second, and debatably the most important, step to a successful event is defining your audience. This step is critical because, without the proper audience in mind, you aren't going to achieve the goal you've set out to reach. Once you've decided the best audience for achieving your goal, create some persona's to help you cater your event to your specific target audience. Be sure to keep both your goal and audience in mind throughout your planning process.

STEP 3
DEVISE A PLAN
Now that you know your goal and audience, it's time to plan an event around them. Think about which type of event will attract your target audience and reach your goal! If you want to raise money, what types of things will your guests want to pay for or donate to? Remember to use your persona's to decide what to include and what to exclude from your event.

STEP 4
MAKE SOME NOISE
You've figured out your goal and audience and you've planned your event, now it's time to make sure your audience knows about it so they can attend! Utilize your persona's to determine the best places to market your event. Social media, newspapers, radio, and flyers are all great options, but remember, to take into account your audience, location, and type of event.

STEP 5
EXECUTE
You've worked hard, now it's time to execute! There will be problems with your event, but role with the punches and do the best you can to anticipate all of the problems you think you may face throughout the event. You've got this!

STEP 6
EVALUATE
Last but not least, evaluate your event! Did you reach your target audience? Did you reach your goals? If so, congrats! If not, evaluate what went wrong and don't make the same mistake!
